Ron Paul wants to know what Department of Homeland Security is good for. Since its inception by George W. Bush, it has a poor record of what was promised it was established for. There is a big ruckus about funding this department, especially concerning the unconstitutional act of providing amnesty to millions of foreign invaders. Not all are from Mexico. This administration and the previous administration has put any burden upon Mexico, whose immigration laws are more strict than ours, but has complained every time the federal government attempted to secure our border and prevent the invasion of “undocumented” people. Obama has had a tendency to blame the woes of the present-day United States on Bush; which some are legitimate. But in 2008, he ran a campaign to “change” all that and 'make it better'. Those that actually see beyond their indoctrination can see that matters are worse in several ways.

The Department of Homeland Security was created eleven days after September 11, 2001. It was an act that reminds one of the rancher closing the barn doors after the horses have escaped. It combined 22 different bureaucratic federal departments to become 'more efficient'. Yet, between 11 and 13 million invaders have crossed our southern border and the president in charge of DHS wants to initiate a blanket amnesty for at least five million of them. All that despite the facts and statistics that show that there is a danger of some of those illegal immigrant lawbreakers, who initially break our immigration laws (while the White House administration has a tradition of not enforcing those laws) and then break another federal law in the form of documentation fraud. Finally, after all this time, the FBI announced a fraudulent document ring has finally been broken and criminals arrested. The documents allowed them to fraudulently obtain driver's licenses and access to government services they did not qualify for. Twenty-two people were charged in 2012. It is now 2015, are they in prison? So where are the millions of illegals since that time getting their documents from.

In recent history, it is coming from the administration that is supposed to be in charge of our national security. After the NSA scandal, we find that our federal government is more interested in spying on citizens rather than stem the tide of a literal invasion of the United States. They are, in general, not here to assimilate. Some come here and continue their criminal activity they conducted in their native country. The same government that spies on citizens is the same government that is now going to control the Internet, thanks to the person in the White House who should have been impeached, or at least NOT reelected in 2012.

Ron Paul, at Townhall, provides a list of reasons why the “homeland security” system is bankrupt – and dangerous. Here are a couple of points:

Despite the heated rhetoric from both sides, no one seriously believes that Congress will allow Homeland Security funding to lapse. Most in Congress believe that, without the Department of Homeland Security, Americans would be left unprotected from terrorists and natural disasters. As with most areas of bipartisan agreement, the truth is the exact opposite of the DC consensus. The American people would be much better off if Congress transferred the few constitutional functions performed by Homeland Security to other parts of the government and then shut down the rest of the department.

Ironically, the best case for shutting down this department is its most well-known component - the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). More terrorist attacks have been thwarted by airline passengers than by the TSA! The TSA may be ineffective at stopping terrorists, but it is very effective at harassing innocent Americans like Lucy Forck. Three-year-old Lucy, who uses a wheelchair, not only had to endure an intrusive screening from TSA agents, but the agents also took away her beloved stuffed animal.

When not abusing children who use wheelchairs, TSA subjects airline passengers to rules that seem designed to make air travel as unpleasant as possible. For example, TSA recently forced a Campaign for Liberty staffer to throw away a jar of Nutella she had in her carry-own luggage. I am sure all airline passengers feel safe knowing that TSA is protecting them from sandwich spreads. Ending the TSA would return responsibility for airline security to airports and airlines. Private businesses have a greater incentive than a government bureaucracy to ensure their customers' safety. Those conservatives who think this is a radical idea should try to think of one area where they trust government bureaucrats to do a better job than private business owners.

Another agency within Homeland Security that the American people could do without is the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Having spent fifteen years in Congress representing a coastal area subject to hurricanes and floods, I have seen first-hand how FEMA places adherence to bureaucratic rules ahead of aiding victims of a natural disaster. As a result, it is not uncommon for disaster victims to wait months or even years for assistance. FEMA not only fails to provide effective relief to disaster victims, it also impedes private disaster relief efforts. FEMA even hinders disaster victims' efforts to help themselves. While in Congress, I heard stories of individuals being threatened with fines or even jail time if they returned to their property without FEMA's permission. One individual in my district was threatened with arrest if he removed a tarp that FEMA put on his house - even though FEMA was supposed to have put it on his neighbor's house!

Ten years after the creation of the Department of Homeland Security, it is clear that this department has failed to protect our security, but has infringed on liberty. If Congress really wanted to enhance our security and our liberty it would shut down this unnecessary, unconstitutional department.

President Obama began his quest to interfere and provide more control over the Internet when he issued one of his infamous 'Memorandums' – Building a 21st Century Digital Government in 2012. The DHA even provided a strategy report.

Charles Faddis stated that the DHS needs to be scrapped, not just reformed. The incompetence of the DHS does not warrant its cost to operate.

DHS will spend $61 billion this year and has spent $544 billion since its creation.

Senator Tom Coburn (OK)

Senator Tom Coburn, Oklahoma announced his retirement from the Senate and also released a series of reports that showed just how incompetent, like the commander-in-chief, truly is. He stated that the DHS has failed -

...to fulfill any of the core missions assigned to it by Congress when it was created following 9/11.

The DHS wasted funds by spending billions of dollars on BioWatch detectors – that did not work. They have decided not to replace those original detectors, but the old ones are still used. The same goes for the machines that is supposed to detect nuclear material - $230 million spent and they did not work. That program was dissolved.

No programs have achieved an effective solution to protect chemical plants in the US …

DHS had as of June 2014 not even gotten around to inspecting 99 percent of the chemical facilities in the country much less begun to take action to improve their security.

DHS and immigration? I am sure you are familiar with that story, especially the recent fight between an unconstitutional president and wimpy Congress.

How many times have your read in the news about scandals within the Secret Service and its repeated security breaches? That agency belongs to the DHS department.

The same goes for the Federal Protective Service (FPS) …

In Detroit, security personnel found an improvised explosive device outside a federal building, carried it inside, shook it, X-rayed it and then left it sitting at the security checkpoint for 21 days before it was disposed of. I could go on, but I think you get the point.

Obama has disenfranchised our allies and has taken the side of major enemies of the free world in what can loosely be termed 'foreign policies'. Despite given a window to put it in his schedule, Obama refused to be a participant in the congressional invite Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to address the US Congress. Yet mainstream media made it look differently to maintain the false impressions of a president whose legacy will be as a 'Great Pretender'. Yet, the just as inept, Secretary of State John Kerry stated:

We have a closer relationship with Israel right now in terms of security than at any time in history.

A Kuwait newspaper recently reported that an Israeli spokesman reported:

...that US President Barack Obama thwarted an Israeli military attack against Iran's nuclear facilities in 2014 by threatening to shoot down Israeli jets before they could reach their targets in Iran. [Israel National News]

The record of this executive administration, both domestically and concerning foreign affairs, will be the most inept and corrupt administration in the history of the United States. He is complying with Iran who has declared itself at war with the United States in recent past and also is intent upon destroying Israel whose only aggression is to stop Iran from obtaining nuclear warfare capability and protecting itself. Obama intends to bypass Congress on the Iran issue.
Not enough people will stand up and say “enough” for fear of being called a racist. President Obama has consistently stated that he cannot do this and that because it is against constitutional law; but his record is that if Congress does not give him what he wants, he just issues executive orders or 'memorandums'.

Funds are lost because of government program fraud, recently two Miami residents were sentenced for only 72 months in prison for their part in a $63 million Medicare fraud scheme.

Under President Obama the federal workforce has grown a full ten percent (158,000 employees) and his recent budget calls for hiring 34,000 more. Yet, civil 'servant' employees are not being fired for incompetence and unethical actions. It is a system that is run by bureaucracy, which is sluggish and inept.

Meanwhile veterans are getting screwed out of legitimate benefits, promised as a part of their service to our nation in our armed forces, regulations established by Congress and the executive administration to 'cut costs'. The same government that claims it wants to cut costs is the same government that provides billions of dollars to foreign nationals.

If this is all not foreboding, Hillary Clinton will soon make it official that she wants to be the next president. We don't need another Bush, but emphatically do not need another Clinton.

The Department of Homeland Security does not necessarily need to be abolished; however, Congress should be not afraid to scrutinize (one of their tasks) the budget proposal of the Obama administration and get rid of waste, as well as a program to reevaluate its employees. There are too many folks who are ethical qualified people who would love to make a career in serving our government in the name of the People.

However, TSA needs to be dissolved and turned over to the private sector. Let the airline companies ensure the safety of its passengers. Qualified TSA employees can transition to the private sector security force so that only the incompetent and unqualified will be looking for new jobs.

The FBI has a good track record, they are constantly seeking out criminals and prosecuting. Its reputation of putting together a solid case for prosecution remains in the commendable department.

Departments concerning illegal immigrants need a major reconstruction – but that will not happen until we have a constitutional president who cares more about national security than providing amnesty for potential political party voters.

The border needs to be more secure. Overall, the Border Patrol personnel are working hard to make that happen – but they are constrained by an executive federal branch headed by the president with policies that are against laws already in place. If we must build a “China Wall” then so be it. It will not be build to keep people in, but to keep invaders out. It would also help to have a policy with Mexico that they be held responsible for aiding those invaders in policy and physical actions.

DHS should pinpointing upon terrorist cells, Islamic Jihadist training camps, and alleged non-profit organizations that are a front for Islamic Jihadist activities and a source of its funding and support.

Recently there has been a rash of arrests made of citizens attempting to join the Islamic State, the enemy of not only the United States, but free nations everywhere. Instead of arresting them and putting them in jail, let them go and take away their passport privileges and a mandate that they can never return to the country they do not appreciate. It would save space in prisons and get rid of potential subversive activities.

There is much more, but you get the idea. Now it is the task of We the People to ensure that our representatives and senators in Congress know the gravity of the situation and that logic and constitutional law must prevail in dealing with this important task of reformation.

And while they are at it, Congress needs to evaluate the need for the United States to participate in United Nations actions, and consider to give the United Nations notice that they must find another piece of real estate to put their building, since they insist on continuing their record of corruption and inept policies and actions. It is not what it was founded for. Instead of an incentive to spread democracy and freedom around the globe, it is a meeting place for despots and tyrants with anti-semitic atmosphere.

At this point, we can see who is at fault for all of this - a myriad of actors in this world-stage play; it is time to seek viable and attainable solutions. Increased funding and higher taxes won't fix it - common sense, logic and removal of wasteful programs and policies will. The Founders included a clause in the Constitution concerning the limitations of government for a reason. It is time to return to that reasoning, so wisely implemented during the birth of our nation. It is time to turn over many of the departments of intrusion and unconstitutional power over to the private sector and state governments, like the federal Department of Education. Our children do not need government indoctrination, they need the knowledge and the tools to be successful adults and responsible student with character and full knowledge of the Constitution and its amendments that provide liberties and freedom for all legal and lawful citizens.

It is time to stop continuing policies that have shown to be a failure. It is time to reexamine and reevaluate legislation and begin the process of repealing bad legislation which includes the 16th Amendment, and especially Obamacare (and now Net Neutrality).
